Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific Sweeps Rotary District 5230 Award Ceremony
Club wins top two coveted Awards
Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific won the two top coveted awards on June 3, 2006 at the 2005-2006 Rotary
District 5230 Conference; Club of the Year and President of the Year for Sandra Whittle. Additional awards include First Place in Community Service, (for Clubs of 1-25 members); First Place for Membership, (Clubs 1-30 members); Club of Distinction award and the Rotary International Presidential Citation award. Rotary District 5230 is comprised of 52 Rotary clubs located in the Counties of: Monterey, Fresno, Kings and Tulare.
The newest club in District 5230 (only 1-1/2 years old,) the Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific has worked on a host of local projects to include: The successful Dine for Hurricane Relief program that raised over $19,000 for victims of Hurricane Katrina and, the City of Monterey’s Adopt-A-Trail program where the club picks up litter on the Monterey Bike Path every other Saturday, among many other local community service projects. The club also chartered the Interact Club of Seaside High School on April 14, 2006 with 27 students from Seaside High School. Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18.
The club has twenty eight members including Past Charter President Ann Appel, Dennis Appel, Ben Beesley, Jim Bennett, Steve Blum, Kathleen Bonner, Geoff Cook, Rika Dotson, Past District Governor Mary Margaret Fleming, Gene Glaser, Marie Hardy, Carolyn Harris, Sheila Keifetz, Pat Lawlor, Leena Lesser, Terry Low, Cory Manalani, Traci Manalani, Scott McKenzie, Melissa McKenzie, Noni McVey, John Mims, Tamara Mims, John Oh, Susan Osorio, Nicole Ushakoff, Nora Walsh and President Sandra Whittle.
The Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific is always looking for enthusiastic community members looking to make business contacts and expand their volunteer and community service, believing in the Rotary International motto SERVICE ABOVE SELF. The Club meets every Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Seaside.
