ROTARY PRESENTS CHECK TO FOOD BANK –
DONATIONS STILL NEEDED (photo)
MONTEREY, Calif. December 17, 2007—
On Thursday, December 13, 2007, members of
the Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific
presented a check to the Food Bank of
Monterey County commemorating the annual
Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation food
drive. The successful effort raised over
6448 pounds of food which, in monetary
terms, is equivalent to $7479.
Monterey County residents, business owners,
Rotarians and students of Seaside High
School eagerly reached out to the Food Bank
when Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific kicked
off its annual food drive this summer.
Donations were made online at
www.food4hungry.org or by dropping off food
at participating businesses and schools. The
effort was so successful and needed that it
was extended for an additional month and
surpassed their initial and impressive goal
of 5,000 pounds.
Executive Director of the Food Bank for
Monterey County, Leslie Sunny stated, “We
are grateful for the effort made by Rotary
and for all who have donated, but we still
need more. The winter months bring high
unemployment and a greater need for food
assistance.”
A recent study found on the Food Bank’s
website reports that one in seven residents
of Monterey County will use the Food Bank
this year.
Donations are accepted online or by mailing
a check to Food Bank for Monterey County,
815 West Market Street, #5, Salinas,
California, 93901. For every dollar donated,
the food bank can distribute $8 of food to
the community.
